I've been working on a 2d game, my first in c++.

Its a 2-player co-op, non-linear, sidescroll shooter. So you can fly anywhere you want over an enormous level and change directions to chase down enemies.

Heres some technical features:

Double buffering
32-bit TGA images with alpha channels
Pre-rendered 3d animation

Heres a hi-res screenshot:

I will be looking for contributions in the way of modelling some enemy ships, full credits will be given if I use your model.

Here is the download, it is compressed with WinRAR:

http://matt.maxnodeservers.com/doublebuff_2008-05-12.rar

This version runs at 1024x768, so that should work for most people, but if you have 1680x1050, let me know and I'll give you a patch to run it in that, its so much better.

Controls are:

1player mode:
Move: Arrow keys
Shoot: Left Ctrl
Change Direction: Left Shift

2player mode:
1p Move: WASD
1p Shoot: Left Ctrl
1p Change Direction: Left Shift
2p Move: Arrow keys
2p Shoot: Right Ctrl
2p Change Direction: Right Shift

Having trouble downloading the previous version as well. It starts, but then it stops a few hundred kb in.

Ok, it took a couple of gos but I finally downloaded it. The concept is really good, a non linear sidescrolling shooter. Multiplayer shows the best potential, especially with the splitscreen allowing both players to go off and do their own thing or attack the same targets. Get a few more backgrounds and more variety of ships, maybe a boss or two and it could be quite a good game.

Its great to hear that feedback. It was designed with 2player coop as the main goal. I was even thinking of the possibility of networking it, for a massive pvp dogfight.

Non-linear, thats the term I was trying to think of. Couldn't remember how to describe it.

So interested in hacking up a couple of little ships to go in it? As you can see theyre 10 min jobs. I'm working on a much more detailed player ship at the moment. But I need some good backgrounds too.

You'll find the images in the "data" folder, theyre TGA's or bitmaps so open in photoshop. Feel free to replace them with your own (make sure theyre the same size) to see what you can make.

Sure, I might be able to whip a few up between working on my mystery car. Maybe even a mother ship after that's done.

Thats cool, I dont mind waiting if you can contribute.

A mothership would be rad.

I hope to get this to a fairly polished state and make a website for it, do some advertising for the people who contribute.

I was also thinking that after destroying an amount of enemies you have to land on the mothership and plant a bomb, then escape the exploding ship.
