Thoughts?

I saw it a few days ago and thought it was pretty great. The design ethic throughout was solid (especially the detail and form of 'Pan' himself) and the ease between realism and fantasy was rather well tackled. The CG was fairly good all round and tasteful.

I have not seen it. Everyone keeps telling me too. What is it about?
We're getting very close, so close we can taste it. And it tastes like awesome.

I saw it last week. absolutly awesome in my opinion. Its about a young girls escapist fantasies. She lives with a ruthless father who is the Captain of a legion of spanish soldiers who are at war with a resistance army. She keeps slipping into her fantasy world where she is the princess of a lost kingdom. The 3d and the design was as good as I've seen. The violence is very graphic in parts. I was quite shocked by it actually. I went with my Girlfriend and her little sister and the little sister was shaking for hours afterwards. I had no Idea it would be so violent. My GF speaks spanish and apparently the translation was a bit off, not least of which the title which is actually "Labyrinth of the faun"
Highly recommended.

*laughs* Yeah I was discussing this with friends afterward actually. I do not think the faun ever said his name was Pan during the movie. I imagine that the movie was labelled 'Pan's Labyrinth' in a similar way to the way 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' to 'Sorceror's Stone' for American audiences. 'Pan's Labyrinth' must have proved more markettable instead of 'Labyrinth of the Faun'.

yeah, often films are re-named for western audiences, I believe the movie "Amelie" was originally called "The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain" and "the professional" with jean reno and natalie portman was called "Leon" in the UK...strange....

And yes I have a beautifull new girl, so much less insane, very smart, very interested in the relationship, the future looks bright for a change. Now I just need a kick arse job.

Right now I'm watching the movie "Monster house" its actually quite awesome 3d. All motion capture, the characters look as if they are made from one piece of plastacine really nice lighting etc.. worth a look...

I think this'll be one of those films I'll be keen on but never go see because it's just too expensive. I find that I really have to want to go see a film if I'm going to pay all that money. Consequently I don't see many movies at the cinema.

What a tight arse eh?

i watched is and was pretty amazed. That was sum good rotoscoping for the fauns legs. like sumone above said, its never mentioned that the faun is called Pan, its just assumed for sum strange reason. the storyline was good and yer the violence was brutal! that bit with the beer bottle and the rabbit hunters! lol
i was gonna put a custom avatar but damn! that teapot render rocks my co..*ahem* world

Beer bottle - ouch!
It is strange thing when the standard of CG gets to a point where the viewer is unsure how much of a character's costume is animated and how much is put on by make-up artists.

Speaking of which - Have you watched the makings of Davey Jones on the DVD? Some interesting pieces in that, but it is a little too dumbed down for my tastes.

Yeh, it seems so simple; model dangly bits, texture dangly bits, run dynamics on dangly bits, hand animate some dangly bits where needed. Looks so impressive though.
