I have turned away from my truck for the time being to try my box modeling techniques on my work laptop. I find that it is great practice for detaching poly's and forming the edges.
Here is the original and a new image with some textures applied. Since you are limited to 24 material in the material editor, I used a multi/sub material for each row of keys and placed up to 14 on each one depending on the number of keys in that row. Then, I just added a material modifier to each stack and numbered accordingly.
Ok, couldn't help it. I renders some more pictures of the laptop with all of the keys mapped and added the Intel and Windows Logo stickers. I also added some lighting and a wooden table, just to break it up until I am finished.
Looks great, bring on the screen. About the material editor, you can reset all the material slots and not lose any of your scene materials. I think the command is under the tools menu in the material editor. You've got around it here, but it's handy to know.http://www.3dprevis.com

Ok, I have added the screen mesh (basic version). I'll be detailing it soon and will do a final render with a static screen shot on the screen. I may then animate is opening and having a video playing on the screen....lol..
Looks very accurate, its good practice modelling stuff like this if you ever get into tv commercials, theres loads of jobs making mobile phones etc..
That must have taken some patience mapping each of the buttons. I did a phone once and that was enough for me...
