Hey folks. Heres an image I made using Vue 5, Poser 6, Max, Z-brush and Treestorm.
I was trying to produce a finished image in a fairly rapid timeframe using some shortcuts like poser 6 and Vue's lovely ecosystem. I did a bit of Z-brushing to the poser mesh and rendered it with vray.

So you finally made the jump and used a bit of vue. I find it's very good for still images, but for animations... not so good. My only crit of this image would be that the texture on the hills in the distance looks a bit flat.

Good compostition, how long did it take?

Yeah, My girlfriend and I were discussing how 3d fits into the whole fine arts realm, she finds it annoying and I quote "Boyish" that we 3d people hold such high regard for technical skill and seem to neglect injecting our work with meaning and concept. I'm not sure I agree, Its very similar to a traditional fine arts aesthetic appreciating good technique etc..
However when you want to express yourself with an image and you don't want to spend a week sculpting every little thing I think Vue and poser are great fun.
In fact I think I saw a Gnomon disc once where a very famous matte painter shows his technique of using Vue as a starting point for a lord of the rings set extension.
albeit a starting point on which he added lots of hand painted details.
Vue for animation does kindoff suck just because to avoid buzzing you need to set everything to 100% which makes it massively slow (At least as far as I can see) plus its damn near impossible to animate a camera. I guess thats where the max to vue plugin comes in.
As for my picture the whole thing took me about 4 hours plus render time.

wow that's pretty quick. Yeh, I've tried the xstream plugin but it's still hard to get a decent animation. Kept getting wierd things happening to my ecosystem grass after a few frames of rendering. The material would completely change. Didn't make sense and I couldn't fix it. I gave up in the end.
I haven't really tried to whip something quick up since before the course. I always seem to end up spending weeks on a project. Maybe that's something I should do...

Yeah, I go through stages of feeling really enthusiastic about making 3d and then others where I do practically nothing for months on end. I wish I could be more consistent really.
