So is that coke ad with the animated droplets etc the one you worked on Tyson? I've only seen it once but it's a pretty good ad, coke have had some good 3d ads lately.

Yeah, both of them are great. That possum thingy looks pretty real and the design on the other one is great.

Much better than the Roofseal or Dodo ads I think we'll all agree?

Have you seen the latest Dodo adds? Man, Tara Reed must be sooo desperate. They could've rendered her boobs a little better, though. They just came off looking fake.

Yes they are a little fake looking. They should've used some sort of soft body dynamic simulation. What really scares me about Tara Reid in that ad is her eyes in the final shot. She looks almost Zombi like.

Yeah the new coke ad with the transparent dudes is the one I worked on.
There were lots of issues where the client would have really wanted them to be actual fluid simulations but the guys at work tried to meet them half way with lots of rubberyness. (You can imagine how hard it is to animate cartoons when they have to slosh around with real flow). I think we all would have liked more time (and money) to really make something amazing but theres only so much you can do on a limited budget regarding complexity. The other coke commercial that played in Cinemas was done by a dutch house I think and had a several million dollar price tag. Never the less, I learnt alot from being a part of the job and got to do some character animation which was fun.

I've got an interview tomorrow at an architectural visualisation company in Sydney, I'm thinking I might try my hand at that, maybe theres longer contracts or perhaps something permanent...

Yes, I can imagine how hard fluid simulations would be to animate. You'd think a company like coke would have a big enough advertising budget to be able to afford it.

Well, yeah. I Guess for small companies its a constant struggle to achieve high end results with small teams and even smaller budgets. Things like fluid characters are a pretty abstract thing. I can't imagine how I'd try and do it even if I had a billion dollars to spend. I guess a big team and some hardcore software engineers could come up with something though. Any thoughts? how would you try and achieve the brief with off the shelf tools?.

You'd have to model and animate the basic shapes in max or whatever and then use them as emitters for realflow particles. Obviously theses particles wouldn't be affected by gravity except maybe some fly away strays that would splash to the ground. And they'd have to stick and follow the forms of the models (which would of course be invisible to the camera) somehow, without totally conforming to the shapes too tightly.

Well that's how I'd do it anyway.

I saw this ad in the cinema on the weekend...

Its a fantastic effort, bright colourful and attention grabbing.

It was awesome... I had bragging rights that one of the creators used my website haha!

I challenge. Having never used real flow I can't quite imagine how to get the deforming meshes to slosh about without just turning completely into dynamic liquid. Would love to see a test. I started my new job today. So far it looks like its going to be lots of fun. modelling and texturing gym equipment and parts of the gym itself, rendering with vray. I think I'll get to work on the edit aswell, kind of a day in the life of a fitness first member. Any ideas for an original plot for such a thing??? we are just throwing around ideas at this stage.

Bastard! I'll give it a try, but I'm not gonna promise anything. It's probably on eof those things you need 4 gig of ram to do effectively. I'll have a crack though.
As for the plot of your ad, it'll have to include a guy getting cheked out by hot girls. That'll make people want to join up. Guys anyway.

How the bloody hell do you get an animated object imported into realflow? I've just been trying to import some basic bend modifyer animations but they don't show up in Realflow. All I can get is PRS animations, which are pretty useless by themselves. Any ideas?
